In a collaborative effort, the Department of Environment, Chandigarh Administration, and the Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee organised ‘EcoFEST 2023’ at DAV College, Chandigarh. This event aimed to promote Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for the environment) emphasising sustainable life practices and featured various activities for environment conservation. The event welcomed T. C. Nautiyal, Director of the Department of Environment, Chandigarh, and Member Secretary of CPCC as the chief guest, who stressed the youth’s pivotal role in environmental conservation. Prof. Navdeep Goyal, Senator at Panjab University, was the guest of honour. Dr. Madhuri Rishi, an associate professor from the Department of Environment, delivered the keynote address, highlighting the significance of LiFE. Dr. Samrat Ghosh from IISER Mohali conducted an engaging session on green crackers, showcasing innovative, smoke-free alternatives. Dr. Meenakshi Jatayan, an assistant environmental engineer, provided expertise on plastic and E-waste management, while Dr. Rhythm Aggarwal, an assistant environmental engineer, shared insights on single-use plastics. Neeraj, Joint Secretary of the Social Welfare Department, also attended. Eco-warriors from Chandigarh and the surrounding areas were recognized for their eco-friendly practices. An eco-exhibition featured NGOs and individuals displaying eco-friendly products and practices on campus. Prof. Rita Jain, the principal of DAV College, Chandigarh, commended the organisers, Dr. Anjali Sharma, Dr. Neelam Sidhu, and Prof. Uday Bhan Singh, for the successful execution of the event.
