The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered another FIR in connection with the post-poll violence in West Bengal, taking the total number of FIRs registered to 49.

A case has been filed in connection with the attempted rape of the wife of a BJP worker in Sadaipur police station area of Birbhum.

Although the state police did not file a case in this regard, the CBI did file a case as per the statement of the complainant. The woman was allegedly raped after which she attempted to immolate herself by pouring kerosene oil on her body. Complaining to the police after the incident did not help. The police did not file a complaint, and this led the family of the victim to flee in fear.

Earlier this month, on December 9, the CBI filed three fresh cases. The new cases were registered in Barasat, Jhargram and Purba Bardhaman districts.

The investigation into the post-poll violence in the state is in full swing. The CBI has started investigation in the districts on the basis of the allegations. Several FIRs have already been lodged. Besides, arrests are also going on.

The CBI has also filed a case in connection with the alleged rape of a minor in Murshidabad. A special delegation of Central Intelligence arrived on a ‘spot visit’ to the fierce Bhatpara village of Kandy.

On May 9, a minor resident of Ugra Bhatpara village of Kandi was allegedly raped by miscreants in Anantapur village of Nabgram area of Murshidabad. The minor, reportedly, is a 10th class student of a local school. The district police had earlier arrested three accused on the charge of rape. But then it was alleged that the police did not take any further action. The accused, later, were released on a bail.

The victim’s family claimed that even after repeatedly approaching the police, there was no benefit. The family later approached the court. The case has been filed on the basis of that allegation. It is to be noted that the court had directed the CBI to investigate the cases which were not investigated by the state police in the post-poll violence.
