As the monsoon season progresses, health officials report a significant increase in dengue fever cases across the region. Dr. Jasmeet Singh, a leading Sr. Consultant Physician
at Shalby Hospitals, Mohali has expressed his concern regarding this growing health issue
“Dengue fever can have a devastating impact on individuals and families,” stated Dr. Singh. “As a Consultant Physician, I have witnessed the severe complications that can arise if the disease isn’t diagnosed and managed early. Everyone must recognize the early signs of dengue and seek medical attention promptly.”

Key Early Symptoms of Dengue Fever:
=High fever
=Severe headache
=Pain behind the eyes
=Joint and muscle pain
=Nausea and vomiting
=Skin rash

Dr. Singh emphasized, “While most dengue cases are mild and can be managed at home with rest and fluids, severe cases can lead to life-threatening complications like dengue hemorrhagic fever and dengue shock syndrome. Early detection and treatment significantly improve the chances of a full recovery.”
Treatment for dengue primarily focuses on managing symptoms and preventing dehydration. This may involve maintaining adequate fluid intake, using pain relievers like acetaminophen ( avoiding aspirin and NSAIDs), and close monitoring for signs of severe dengue. In severe cases, hospitalization may be required for intravenous fluids and specialized care.
Health officials urge the public to take preventive measures to minimize the risk of dengue infection. These measures include:
1. Eliminate Standing Water: Mosquitoes breed in stagnant water. Regularly empty and clean water containers, flower pots, and bird baths. Ensure that water tanks are adequately covered.
2. Use Mosquito Repellents: Apply insect repellent on exposed skin and clothing. Use mosquito nets while sleeping, especially in areas with high mosquito activity.
3. Wear Protective Clothing: Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants to reduce skin exposure to mosquito bites.
4. Maintain Cleanliness: Ensure your surroundings are clean and free from waste that can collect water.
5. Community Engagement: Participate in community clean-up drives and support local health authorities’ mosquito control efforts.
Shalby Hospital is committed to providing comprehensive care for dengue patients and raising awareness about this preventable disease. If you or someone you know experiences any symptoms of dengue fever, please seek medical attention immediately.
