Graphic videos circulating on social media reveal the scene that unfolded after a driver recklessly rammed his SUV into a group of people during Vancouver’s Lapu Lapu Festival in the evening of April 26, 2025.

There were several deaths and injuries. The Filipino heritage festival, being held at E. 41st Avenue and Fraser Street, was in progress when the fatal incident happened around 8 p.m. Vancouver police confirmed the fatalities and injuries and said the driver of the SUV is in custody. But the precise details of the crash are still unclear.

Viral Videos Show Chaos

Footage from the scene shows a large police presence on Fraser Street and East 43rd Street, with first responders tending to victims. Jen Idaba-Castaneto, a female who was at the festival, reacted with shock, saying, “We’re all OK physically, but honestly, I’m still very shaken up. I’m in shock and have been having panic attacks after seeing everything that transpired.” She went on to say that it was horrifying and that it was “something I never thought I would witness, especially at what was supposed to be a celebratory event for our community.”

The Vancouver Police Department confirmed they are still investigating and will share more information as the investigation progresses. Canadian politicians offered their condolences following the tragedy.

Premier David Eby posted, “Shocked & heartbroken to hear of the lives lost & those injured at the Lapu Lapu festival. Police are investigating & a suspect is in custody. We are in touch with the City of Vancouver and will offer any assistance required. My condolences to the victims and their families.”


Patrick Weiler, a Canadian politician, also responded, stating, “My thoughts are with the victims, their families, the Filipino community and all those impacted by the horrific act of violence at the Lapu Lapu festival today. The VPD is investigating, the driver is in custody, and it’s important that we let law enforcement do their job.”
