Indian Student Killed in Canada: Who Shot Harsimrat Randhawa at a Bus Stop in Broad Daylight?

An Indian student was killed after being hit by a stray bullet when she was standing at a bus stop on her way to work in Ontario, Canada. Harsimrat Randhawa was 21 years old and a student at Mohawk College in Hamilton. She was standing at a bus stop on Wednesday when a passenger in a car opened fire and one of the bullets struck her.

Police Launch Homicide Probe in Harsimrat Randhawa Case

Hamilton Police is probing the murder claiming Randhawa was an innocent bystander. Consulate General of India in Toronto, in a post on X Friday, stated, “We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of Indian student Harsimrat Randhawa in Hamilton, Ontario.”

In the meantime, authorities said that according to local police, she was an innocent victim who was killed by a stray bullet when two cars were involved in a shooting incident. “A homicide investigation is ongoing. We are in close contact with her family and are providing all the necessary support. Our thoughts and prayers are with the grieving family at this sad time,” the Consulate General stated.

Details of the Incident Involving Harsimrat Randhawa

In a release statement, the Hamilton Police stated that it was alerted about a shooting around 7.30 pm local time near Upper James and South Bend Road streets in Hamilton. “When police arrived on the scene, Randhawa had been shot in the chest. She was taken to a hospital, but she died,” they added.

Vehicles Fled the Scene

The authorities looked into videos and learned that the rider of a black vehicle shot the people inside a white sedan. The vehicles then fled the area shortly after the shooting, added the report.

The bullets from the shooting also entered the back window of a home close by where residents were watching TV a couple of feet away. Nobody was hurt inside the home, according to police.

Police are also requesting dashcam or any other security video close to the scene of the shooting to contact officials and share any information that will assist in advancing the investigation.
