In a shocking act of vandalism, the Shree Lakshmi Narayana Mandir in Surrey, Canada, was defaced in the early hours of April 19, 2025, with pro-Khalistan slogans. According to a statement from the temple, the word “Khalistan” was spray-painted on the entrance sign and several pillars of the sacred site.
Security Camera Stolen
The vandals not only defaced the temple walls but also stole the security camera, possibly to avoid identification. The temple authorities reported the incident took place around 3:00 AM and involved two unidentified individuals.
Repeated Targeting of Hindu Temples
This is reportedly the third time a Hindu temple has been targeted by pro-Khalistani elements in Canada. Canadian journalist Daniel Bordman highlighted the growing concern over such hate-motivated acts on social media, calling for urgent government intervention.
Temple Calls for Unity and Action
“We strongly condemn this hateful act of vandalism and theft,” the temple said in its official statement. “This is not just a crime—it’s a direct attack on a sacred space that serves as a spiritual and cultural hub for many families, including elders and children.”
An FIR has been registered with the Surrey Police, and temple authorities confirmed they are fully cooperating with the investigation.
Appeal to Government and Society
The temple urged leaders at all levels of government and members of the public to speak out against this hate crime, emphasizing that “attacks on places of worship have no place in a respectful and diverse society like Canada.”
