Canadian Punjabi singer Shubhneet Singh, known as Shubh, is currently facing significant backlash ahead of his scheduled concert in Mumbai. Members of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) have accused him of supporting separatist Khalistani elements, leading to a growing controversy. Here’s a closer look at the unfolding situation:

Shubh’s Mumbai concert and upcoming tour:
Shubh is set to perform in Mumbai from September 23 to 25 as part of the Cruise Control 4.0 event, organized aboard the Cordelia Cruise. Additionally, Shubh has a three-month-long tour in India lined up, with performances planned in various cities including New Delhi, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.

Reasons behind the backlash:
The controversy surrounding Shubh escalated when members of BJYM tore down his posters and alleged that the singer supports separatist Khalistani elements. Adding fuel to the fire, Shubh’s social media post featuring a distorted map of India that omitted Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir went viral, drawing widespread disappointment. This post was shared by Shubh during the Punjab Police’s pursuit of a fugitive named Amritpal Singh.
BJYM President Tajinder Singh Tiwana expressed his stance, saying, “There is no space for Khalistanis who are the enemy of the integrity and unity of India. We won’t allow Canadian singer Shubh to perform in the auspicious land of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Mumbai. If no proper action is taken, then the organizers will have to face our opposition.” The BJYM has also called for the cancellation of Shubh’s shows in India.

Virat Kohli’s ‘Unfollow’:
Shubh, known for popular songs like “Elevated,” “OG,” and “Cheaques,” has garnered a global fan base. Virat Kohli was previously seen grooving to one of Shubh’s songs in a viral video, but later, he unfollowed the singer on social media. Reports suggest that cricketers KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya have also unfollowed Shubh on social media. However, it remains unclear whether the cricketers took this action in response to the ongoing controversy.
As the controversy continues to unfold, it has raised questions about the implications for Shubh’s Mumbai concert and his tour across India. The situation remains fluid, with public opinion and reactions evolving.
