In a tragic road accident in Dehradun, six students, including three women, lost their lives while one person sustained serious injuries. The accident took place early Tuesday at around 1:30 am near ONGC Chowk when a speeding Innova crashed into the rear of a container truck, leaving the car severely mangled. The lone survivor, identified as 25-year-old Siddhesh Agrawal, is hospitalized in critical condition.
According to initial police findings, the truck driver may not be at fault, as the speeding multi-utility vehicle (MUV) collided with the truck’s rear left, a blind spot on large vehicles. The deceased driver, who owned the car, cannot be held legally responsible posthumously. However, without a formal complaint from the families of the deceased, the police are consulting legal experts to explore any viable legal steps.
Inspector KC Bhatt from Cantt police station noted they are awaiting a complaint from the families before registering a case. CCTV footage from earlier that night shows the car moving at a normal speed through various parts of Dehradun, including Rajpur Road, Saharanpur Chowk, Balliwala, and Ballupur, before accelerating suddenly near ONGC Chowk, leading to the collision.
