WATCH | Gautam Adani Responds To US Fraud Charges: "Every Attack Makes Us Stronger"
Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani addressed allegations of corruption and fraud filed by US prosecutors, emphasizing his company’s commitment to compliance and resilience. Speaking at the 51st Gems and Jewellery Award in Jaipur, Adani declared:
“Every attack makes us stronger, and every obstacle becomes a stepping stone for a more resilient Adani Group.”
The charges, brought forth by the US Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), accuse Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL) and key executives of securities and wire fraud, citing materially false and misleading statements in bond offering documents.
The US indictment alleges that Gautam Adani, his nephew Sagar Adani, and others orchestrated a $265 million bribery scheme between 2021 and 2023 to secure energy contracts worth $2 billion in profits over 20 years. Bribes were reportedly directed at officials in Indian states, including Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, and others.

The SEC has also filed a civil complaint against Adani and other executives. Arrest warrants have been issued for Gautam Adani and Sagar Adani, with plans to involve foreign law enforcement.
The Adani Group has strongly refuted these allegations, calling them “baseless.” The company stated its intention to pursue legal recourse to defend itself.
“No one from Adani’s side has been charged with any violation or conspiracy to obstruct justice,” Gautam Adani asserted, criticizing the spread of misinformation.
The allegations have sparked political controversy in India. While opposition parties accuse the BJP of shielding Adani, the BJP highlighted that the states mentioned in the US indictment are governed by opposition parties.
Adani reaffirmed the company’s dedication to compliance and progress, stating:
“The more bold your dreams, the more the world scrutinizes. It is in that scrutiny that we find the courage to challenge the status quo.”
As the legal process unfolds, the Adani Group remains resolute in defending its reputation and pioneering initiatives. While the allegations cast a shadow, Adani’s response underscores the company’s determination to emerge stronger amidst challenges.
