The past few weeks have been quite eventful for movie buffs. They have been treated to various films from different genres. While Crew was a light-hearted comedy-drama, Maidaan catered to those fond of sports sagas. Similarly, Madgaon Express appealed to the younger audience. Swatantra Veer Savarkar, on the other hand, celebrated the life of a braveheart. Rounding up the list of recent releases was Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, an actioner designed to woo the masses.

However, not all these films were accepted by the audience. Here is a look at the box office performances of five major recent releases.

Swatantra Veer Savarkar

Swatantra Veer Savarkar, starring Randeep Hooda, hit screens on March 22. The biographical drama revolves around the life journey of Indian freedom fighter and reformer Damodar Sarvarkar, popularly known as Veer Sarvarkar.

Shot on a budget of 20 crore, the film reportedly earned Rs 23.66 crore at the box office during its theatrical run to emerge as an ‘average’ grosser.

Directed by Randeep Hooda, the film features him as Vinayak Damodar Savarkar alongside Ankita Lokhande, Amit Sial, and R Bhakti. It explores India’s freedom struggle through Savarkar’s eyes.

Crew

Crew, which hit screens on March 29, received a favorable response during the first weekend of its release.

The film is made on a budget of 75 crores. It brings together Tabu, Kareena Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Diljit Dosanjh. Kapil Sharma makes a special appearance in the comedy-drama. According to Film Exhibitor Akshaye Rathi, the film has done very well at the box office.

“Crew has touched the 50 crore mark,” he stated.

Based on these figures, the verdict for the film is ‘hit’.

Directed by Rajesh Krishnan, the flick revolves around three flight attendants who face financial challenges because of their work situation. As things unfold, they get drawn into a complex web of deception and lies.

Madgaon Express

Madgaon Express, which hit the screens on March 22, made a decent impact at the box office despite a limited release. Rathi stated that the film continues to grow even after 30 days of its release.

“Madgaon Express is currently at around 30 crores and still taking on!” he said.

‘Madgaon Express’ was shot on a budget of Rs 20 crore. Its box office verdict is ‘average’.

The film features Divyenndu as Dodo, Pratik Gandhi as Pinku, Avinash Tiwary as Ayush, Nora Fatehi as Tasha, Upendra Limaye as Mendoza Bhai, and Chhaya Kadam as Kanchan Kombdi among others. The story centres on three childhood friends who grow up imagining a ‘trip to Goa.’.

Bade Miyan Chote Miyan

‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’, starring Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff, hit the theatres on April 11 amid fanfare. Around 85,000 tickets were pre-booked for the film.

Film Exhibitor Akshaye Rathi suggested the film has decent potential.

“Bade Miyan Chote Miyan earned in between Rs 45 to Rs 48 crores domestically during the first week of release and is now heading towards the second week with many shows around the country,” Rathi said.

Shot on a budget of Rs 350 crores, the film has caught viewers’ attention. The final verdict is awaited but it is likely to end up as a ‘flop’.

‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ is an action entertainer featuring Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff as soldiers on a mission to recover a stolen AI weapon from a masked foe. The cast includes Prithviraj, Manushi Chhillar, and Alaya F.

Maidaan

‘Maidaan’ hit theaters on April 11 and opened to a decent response at the ticket window. The biographical sports drama has been shot on a budget of Rs. 250 crores.

Rathi mentions that the film is still earning money. “Maidaan is somewhere between 30 to 40 crores and is heading in its second week. It is taking over the scoreboard! The word-of-mouth is great,” he said

The final verdict for ‘Maidaan’ is awaited but it might end up as ‘below average’

Based on a true story, ‘Maidaan’ is directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma and stars Ajay Devgn in the role of Syed Abdul Rahim, a man who dedicated his life to football. Alongside Ajay, the film features Priyamani, Gajraj Rao, and Bengali actor Rudranil Ghosh in key roles.
