Jammu and Kashmir Police has once again started reactivating and weaponising Village Defence Committee (VDCs) in Jammu region amid ongoing threat from drones in the last few days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated the political process by meeting all-party leaders of Jammu and Kashmir.
Police have started fresh training and guidance camps for the civilians and special training to the Village Defence Committee (VDCs) members of weapon handling and identifying the suspected drones in the border villages.
Village Defence Committees (VDCs) were formed by the Jammu Kashmir government in 1996 when terrorism was at its peak. “VDCs have played a very important role in the past when terrorism was at its peak. They were given training to use weapons and were at the forefront in encounters too. Now we
