The Bombay High Court on Wednesday suspended its hearings scheduled for the day, including all virtual hearings, given the heavy rainfall in the city and suburbs.

Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik had filed a bail plea in the Bombay High Court, and the hearing for which was scheduled for Wednesday. Due to heavy rains in the city, the high court suspended all its hearing for the day.

They were arrested on 9 September by the Narcotics Control Bureau in the drug charges linked to the Sushant Singh Rajput death investigation. On Tuesday, they filed an application in the Bombay High Court seeking bail.

Their lawyer Satish Maneshinde said the plea will be heard before a bench of justice Sarang Kotwal. The Special Court has extended her judicial custody till 6th October.

The court had denied bail to Chakraborty on 11 September, saying if she was released on bail she might alert others and they might destroy evidence. In the bail application, Riya’s lawyer has stated that Riya is just 28 years old and apart from the NCB investigation, she had faced the investigation and media trial of three agencies.

“All these have had a profound impact on Riya’s mental health. If kept in further custody, her condition will deteriorate further and she is also under the threat of Covid-19”, said the bail application.

As per the communication issued by the high court registrar, the cases and other matters scheduled on Wednesday will be taken up on Thursday.
