Actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay was at the center of a social media uproar recently when a video circulated showing one of his bodyguards brandishing a gun at a fan. The incident occurred at Madurai airport, where the actor had returned from a movie shoot in Kodaikanal. As Vijay alighted from his car, fans flocked around, cheering and trying to catch a glimpse of the star.
But the situation got out of hand very fast when one fan crossed the security line and attempted to go up to Vijay with a shawl in hand. In the ensuing commotion, one of Vijay’s security officers was caught pointing a gun at the fan for a brief moment, an action that caused widespread shock and alarm online.
Surprisingly, Vijay seemed oblivious to the commotion, walking into the terminal calmly without even noticing the commotion behind him.

Internet Split Over Security Action
The encounter’s video rapidly went viral on the social media site X (formerly Twitter), prompting an outburst of reactions. While others were alarmed, others stood in defense of the security personnel’s actions. One such user tweeted, “This is scary. Actor vijays bouncers using Pistol against public in public place.” Another indirectly criticized the actor, stating, “When the public or press approaches other actors like Rajinikanth sir, Ajith sir, Sivakarthikeyan Na, Suriya Na, they are very much kinder than this man over here! Poor tata, he thought he might get to see Vijay, but he and his team had other plans!”
Vijay’s fans defended him. Others posted the video slowed down and claimed the bodyguard was merely handing the weapon over to another team member, the normal protocol when entering an airport terminal. “Why did the guard pull out his gun? Simple. Guns aren’t allowed inside the terminal. He was handing it over to another officer before entering. Standard protocol,” stated one of the fans.
Another added, “Thalapathy Vijay’s security officer was responsibly handing over a firearm to a colleague at the airport when a cadre’s reckless interference caused a brief mishap. No one was targeted.”
As the debate rages online, the incident has highlighted the strained relationships between celebrity security and public enthusiasm.
