Urvashi Rautela, who is known for her bold and offbeat fashion sense, made a statement on the first day (May 13) of the 78th Cannes International Film Festival. She walked the red carpet prior to the screening of Partir Un Jour (Leave One Day).

Cost of the ‘Parrot Clutch’

Her parrot-shaped, crystal-studded clutch became the talk of the internet and ignited a burst of silly comments. Urvashi had chosen a bold, structured gown by Michael Cinco in bright shades of yellow, red, and blue.

She also wore an over-the-top clutch made by luxury brand Judith Leiber, which cost $5,495 (around Rs. 4.68 lakh), further agitating people on the net. She completed her look with a flamboyant headpiece and bold make-up.

Fashion blogger Diet Sabya posted pictures of Urvashi from Cannes, and there were some hilarious reactions. One person said, “Giving ‘Moulin Rouge meets Mayur Vihar’ realness.” Another asked, “Is it a satire on camp?” Another person said, “Urvashi devi ready for Jagran,” while another person demanded her Dabidi Dabidi drag performance.

By way of background, Dabidi Dabidi is a tune by Daaku Maharaaj starring Urvashi and Nandamuri Balakrishna. The song was badly criticized on the social media when it was tagged as having “indecent” dance steps.

The 78th Cannes Film Festival formally commenced on May 13. Apart from Urvashi, a few other leading Indian celebrities, namely Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Janhvi Kapoor, Sharmila Tagore, and Simi Garewal, will walk the red carpet. One of the 21 competing films will receive the honor of the coveted Palme d’Or, and the award winners will be announced on May 24 during the festival closing ceremony.
