Almost a year after Chandu Champion hit theatres, actor Bhuvan Arora revealed that the film was originally planned with Sushant Singh Rajput in the lead.
Sushant Bought the Story Rights Before His Death
In a recent interview with Hindi Rush, Bhuvan said Sushant had told him that he purchased the story rights to make a film on Murlikant Petkar. While recalling their airport meeting, Bhuvan shared, “Sushant told me he was going to do a film about a paralympic swimmer.” He further added that “the story rights were with Sushant, and even Murlikant sir confirmed it in an interview.”
Bhuvan Didn’t Realise the Connection Until Later
At first, Bhuvan didn’t think much about their conversation. However, when Chandu Champion released, he saw an interview of Murlikant Petkar. That’s when the memory returned. “It slipped off my mind,” Bhuvan admitted, but added, “when Chandu Champion came out, I saw Murlikant sir mention that Sushant was supposed to do the film.”
Ironically, Bhuvan ended up acting in the same movie years later. “I wasn’t part of the movie back then,” he said, “but now I am in it, and Sushant isn’t here.”
Kartik Aaryan Eventually Took the Lead Role
After Sushant’s sudden death in 2020, the role eventually went to Kartik Aaryan. Directed by Kabir Khan, Chandu Champion released on June 14, 2024. The film is based on the life of Murlikant Petkar, India’s first Paralympic gold medalist. Though the film received mixed reviews, many praised the story.
Sushant’s Death Still Raises Questions
Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his Mumbai apartment in June 2020. Some people believe it was suicide, while others still suspect foul play. His sisters continue to demand answers and justice.
