Veteran actress Simi Garewal is all set to make her debut at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, where she will attend the screening of the 4K restored version of Satyajit Ray’s 1970 classic Aranyer Din Ratri. The 77-year-old actress, who portrayed the tribal Santhal girl Duli in the iconic Bengali film, will be present for the screening under the Cannes Classics category on May 19. This marks an exciting moment in her career as she joins the celebration of Ray’s timeless cinematic legacy.

Simi Garewal, renowned for her memorable roles in classic films such as Karz, Chalte Chalte, and Mera Naam Joker, took to Instagram to share the exciting news. In a video, she gave a sneak peek of her outfit selection for the big day. “So I’ve finally decided as to who will design my ensemble for the red carpet in Cannes!! It’s on 19th May, when we present my film with Ray, Aranyer Din Ratri, restored by Wes Anderson, Martin Scorsese, and the Heritage Foundation. Because I love their aesthetics… I’ve chosen @karleofashion (sic),” she wrote in the post.

For this significant occasion, the actress will wear a couture ensemble designed by Karleo, a fashion house founded by Karan Berry and Leon Vaz. Known for its elegant and sophisticated designs, Karleo will ensure Simi makes a statement on the global stage.

The screening will also be graced by Sharmila Tagore, director Wes Anderson, and other notable figures like Purnima Dutta, Margaret Bodde from The Film Foundation, and Shivendra Singh Dungarpur of the Film Heritage Foundation. The Cannes Film Festival, set to begin on May 13 on the French Riviera, will honor Satyajit Ray’s film as part of its initiative to preserve and promote heritage cinema.
