Malayalam actors Shine Tom Chacko and Sreenath Bhasi appeared before excise officials in Alappuzha on Monday. This was part of an ongoing investigation into the seizure of hybrid ganja worth approximately Rs 2 crore earlier this month.
The Investigation and Allegations
The drugs were found in the possession of a woman, who reportedly told excise authorities she had consumed drugs with both actors. Based on her statement, the excise department issued notices to Chacko and Bhasi, prompting their appearance for questioning.
Shine Tom Chacko’s Previous Troubles
This investigation adds to Shine Tom Chacko’s ongoing scrutiny. He has previously faced allegations of drug use and misconduct. On April 22, the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) issued a final warning to Chacko. FEFKA urged him to refrain from further drug use or disruptive behavior on film sets.
FEFKA’s Actions and Chacko’s Response
FEFKA’s General Secretary, B Unnikrishnan, confirmed that Chacko admitted to using drugs. “FEFKA informed family members of Shine that he required professional assistance to overcome the problem of drug use,” Unnikrishnan said in a press briefing. He also added that FEFKA would not cooperate with Chacko if he violated his promise to avoid further problems.
Recent Incidents and Police Involvement
Shine’s troubles continued when he was involved in a narcotics raid at a hotel in Kochi on April 19. Reportedly, he fled the scene but was later apprehended by Kochi police after a lengthy interrogation. He was arrested but later released on bail.
The investigation is still ongoing, and more questions have arisen regarding Chacko’s involvement in the drug-related case. Commissioner of Police, Putta Vimaladitya, confirmed the ongoing inquiry. “We have taken some samples to be forwarded to the FSL. Based on the results, we will conduct further investigation,” he said. Chacko is cooperating with the investigation, but the police have yet to make conclusive remarks.
Chacko’s Previous Appearance
Earlier, Shine Tom Chacko appeared at the Ernakulam North Police Station. He was responding to a notice issued by the police about his attempt to flee during the narcotics raid. Chacko attended the session with his lawyers.
