‘Oppenheimer’ by Christopher Nolan Wins Best Picture at Oscars 2024

The biopic movie ‘Oppenheimer’, featuring actors Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr., clinched the Best Picture award at the 2024 Oscars.

The prestigious event took place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles.

Taking to X, The Academy shared a post and wrote, “To close out the night, the Academy Award for Best Picture goes to… ‘Oppenheimer’!”

The movie triumphed over strong contenders such as ‘American Fiction’, ‘Anatomy of a Fall’, ‘Barbie’, ‘The Holdovers’, ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’, ‘Maestro’, ‘Past Lives’, ‘Poor Things’, and ‘The Zone of Interest’. Nolan’s biopic dominated the awards ceremony by securing victories in the categories of Best Supporting Actor, Best Leading Actor, Best Film Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Original Score, and Best Directing.

The biopic, which unfolds during World War II, traces the journey of Oppenheimer, renowned as the “Father of the Atomic Bomb,” as he grapples with the realization that testing the atomic bomb could potentially trigger a catastrophic event by igniting the atmosphere and annihilating the world. Nonetheless, he proceeds to push the button despite this understanding.

Cillian Murphy, taking on the role of ‘Oppenheimer’, marks his debut as the lead actor in a Christopher Nolan film. Known for his roles in ‘Inception’, ‘Batman Begins’, ‘The Dark Knight’, ‘The Dark Knight Rises’, and ‘Dunkirk’, Murphy has been a consistent presence in numerous Nolan movies.

The ensemble cast boasts prominent names such as Rami Malek, Kenneth Branagh, Benny Safdie, Dane DeHaan, Jack Quaid, Matthew Modine, Alden Ehrenreich, Josh Peck, Jason Clarke, David Dastmalchian, Alex Wolff, James D’Arcy, among numerous others. Florence Pugh takes on the role of Jean Tatlock, Emily Blunt portrays Kitty Oppenheimer, while Robert Downey Jr. plays the characters of Lewis Strauss.
