Meghan’s Formal Side: Duchess Requests To Be Addressed As “Ma’am” At Invictus

In a recent revelation, Scott Moore, the CEO of the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025, disclosed that Meghan Markle prefers to be addressed as “Ma’am.” This guidance was provided ahead of his first meeting with the Duchess of Sussex during her visit to Canada earlier this year. According to Moore, who shared his experience with The Mirror, he was advised to address Meghan as “Ma’am” and Prince Harry as “Sir”—a protocol differing from traditional royal greetings, which start with “Your Royal Highness.”

Since stepping down from their royal roles in 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex no longer hold “HRH” titles, making this formal approach optional. The request for formal address marks a shift from Harry’s previous preference for informality; in 2020, he told an audience at a tourism event to simply call him “Harry.”

The Invictus Games, founded by Prince Harry in 2014, brings together wounded and sick servicemen and women. During the Sussexes’ February trip to Vancouver, they engaged with participants at the “One Year to Go” celebration, where Invictus athletes participated in winter sports training. The 2025 Vancouver event, scheduled for February 8–16, aims to expand on the success of the 2023 games in Germany. At last year’s games, Markle hinted that their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, might attend the upcoming event.
