‘Main apni maryada bhool gaya tha’: Anurag Kashyap Issues Apology to Brahmins Amid Phule Remark Row

Director Anurag Kashyap apologized fervently to the Brahmin people after he came under fire for a comment that he made regarding his next film Phule. The director, whose social media statement had invited criticism, accepted his fault and stated that he lost control of himself while responding angrily.

Anurag Kashyap’s apology

Apology Amid Threats and FIR

Controversy broke out when Kashyap reacted to a social media commenter about the outrage surrounding Phule, his film on social reformers Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule. In the process of responding, he uttered words that were many perceived as derogatory for the Brahmin section.

The comment had evoked widespread outrage and even threats to his daughter. An FIR against him was lodged at Bajaj Nagar police station in Jaipur on a complaint by resident Anil Chaturvedi. Confirmation of the case being registered was made by Sub-Inspector Ram Kripal, who cited abusive language in the director’s social media post.

Backlash Over Phule and Clarification

The movie Phule, which explores the caste-oriented social reforms of Jyotiba and Savitribai Phule, has been surrounded by controversy regarding its depiction of caste dynamics. Kashyap’s remarks doubting the criticism against the film further stoked tensions.

Coming under heavy criticism and trolling, the director released an earlier apology too, but the latest remark was meant to further clarify his position and restore ties with the offended community.

Kashyap Vows to Reflect and Improve

In his letter, Kashyap stated he would try to manage anger and speak the proper words while sharing his opinions in the future.

Hoping for forgiveness, he wrapped up with, “आशा है आप मुझे माफ कर देंगे।”

The apology has been considered an important step toward defusing the controversy; however, public sentiment remains split. As Phule approaches its release, the director’s ability to handle delicate social issues will, therefore, remain under tight focus.
