John Abraham on His Bond with Karan Johar

In an interview with Filmfare, John shared his admiration for Karan Johar. He said, “The other person who I really love, and care about is Karan (Johar). I think he is one of the most wonderful people I have met. I don’t have any work with him in a long time, but he has always been there for me.”

Recalling his comeback phase, John mentioned that he wanted an honest opinion before Parmanu released. He explained, “I didn’t have a release for four years and obviously, as usual, my obituary was written. I wanted to show Parmanu to someone to get some kind of reaction and I called in Karan. I said, ‘Just see this film and just make sense of it and tell me’. He saw it and he advised ‘This is good, this is so not good’.”

John also defended Karan Johar against criticism. He stated, “There is a lot of criticism around Karan, but I am his strong supporter. I believe that he doesn’t deserve that.”

Excited to Explore Comedy Again

Apart from discussing his bond with Karan, John also expressed his eagerness to return to comedy, especially with his longtime co-star Akshay Kumar. The two have worked together in hit comedies like Garam Masala, Desi Boyz, and Housefull 2.

John shared his desire to work on meaningful comedy. He said, “I’m exploring doing something funny. You need to make people laugh and enjoy, not just without any meaning but to get something out of it. For instance, Garam Masala was so special, and films like that make a difference. So, I’m looking out for scripts, I’m looking out to do something funny.”

John Abraham remains open to experimenting with different genres, but his focus now is on making audiences laugh with stories that have depth.
