Deepika Padukone, who recently embraced motherhood, is reportedly facing some major setbacks in her career. Report claims that producers dropped actress Deepika Padukone from two major projects, Spirit and Kalki 2, after she demanded reduced working hours and extra pay for extended shoot days.
The conflict reportedly began on the sets of Spirit, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, due to these creative and contractual disagreements. Later on, Vanga made a vague but direct social media post in which she seemed to criticize the actress for acting impolitely and questioned her views on feminism.
The makers formally have signed the rising star Triptii Dimri to replace Deepika Padukone in Spirit, and she expressed her excitement about joining the project online.
Why Did Deepika Exit Spirit?
Earlier, Deepika Padukone was said to have exited director Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s upcoming film Spirit. A source close to the production shared, “Sandeep Reddy Vanga got the shock of his life when Deepika Padukone refused to shoot for more than 6 hours a day for Spirit.
That’s not all, the actress, via her agency, also started to demand an amendment to the contract. Their point of contention was simple: if the shoot extends beyond 100 days, Deepika will have to be paid extra for every single day of shoot beyond the commitment on paper.”
Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Response To Deepika’s Exit
The situation became more public when Sandeep Reddy Vanga posted a cryptic message on X, appearing to address the controversy without directly naming her. He wrote,
“When I narrate a story to an actor, I place 100% faith. There is an unsaid NDA between us. But by doing this, You’ve ‘DISCLOSED’ the person that you are… Putting down a Younger actor and ousting my story? Is this what your feminism stands for? As a filmmaker, I put years of hard work behind my craft & for me, filmmaking is everything. You didn’t get it. You won’t get it. You will never get it.”
He added,
“Aisa karo…. Agli baar poori kahani bolna… kyunki mujhe jarra bhi farak nahi padtha. #dirtyPRgames. I like this kahawath very much!”
Following her exit, actress Triptii Dimri has officially joined Spirit. She confirmed her casting by sharing the title poster in multiple languages on social media, writing,
“Still sinking in… So grateful to be trusted with this journey. Thank you @sandeepreddy.vanga… Honoured to be a part of your vision.”
