YouTuber-turned-actor Apoorva Mukhija, popularly known as The Rebel Kid, is slowly rebuilding her career. Earlier this year, she faced backlash over the India’s Got Latent controversy. As a result, she is not ready to make big public appearances yet.
She says she’s not ready for Cannes
On Monday, Apoorva interacted with fans during an Instagram Q&A. One user asked others which content creator they wanted to see on the Cannes red carpet. Someone mentioned Apoorva’s name.
Soon after, she reposted the comment and replied, “Gaali nahi khani” (Don’t want to get abused). Therefore, it seems she has decided not to attend Cannes this year. However, it’s unclear if she was joking or serious about skipping the event.
Cannes organisers set new dress rules
The 78th Cannes Film Festival will take place from May 13 to May 24, 2025. This year, organisers have banned outfits that promote nudity. They said the rule was made to maintain “decency.”
Meanwhile, several Indian stars will walk the red carpet this year. These include Alia Bhatt, Aishwarya Rai, Sharmila Tagore, Anupam Kher, and Ishaan Khatter.
Her earlier controversy still affects her
Previously, in January, Apoorva appeared on the YouTube show India’s Got Latent. During that episode, fellow YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia made controversial remarks about sex and parents. As the clip went viral, he received heavy criticism.
Additionally, a clip featuring Apoorva also drew backlash. Following the outrage, comedian Samay Raina — the show’s creator — deleted all episodes. Moreover, police registered several FIRs against Samay, Ranveer, Apoorva, and others involved.
After the controversy, Apoorva stayed away from social media. However, she has now returned and is posting content again.
