Anil Kapoor’s Mother Nirmal Kapoor Passes Away at 90

Veteran Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor’s mother, Nirmal Kapoor, died at the age of 90. As per reports, she passed away at 5:45 pm on Friday during treatment at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and Medical Research Institute in Mumbai. The exact nature of her ailments is not revealed.

Matriarch of the Kapoor family

Nirmal Kapoor, popularly known as the matriarch of the Kapoor khaandaan, played a low-key but powerful role in creating a family that was very Bollywood at its core. Her legacy consists of children and grandchildren who are all big names in the business. Her son Anil Kapoor is a noted actor, and her eldest son, Boney Kapoor, has produced some of Bollywood’s biggest movies. Her youngest son Sanjay Kapoor is an actor as well.

Among her grandchildren are actresses Sonam Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor, and Khushi Kapoor, who all carry the family’s illustrious film heritage forward.

End of an era

Her death marks the end of a landmark chapter in the life of the Kapoor family. With her smiling face always, Nirmal was a well-loved person at family gatherings. “Anil Kapoor is bereaved,” a source privy to the family informed.

Not so long ago, in September 2024, Anil Kapoor had commemorated his mother’s 90th birthday with a warm Instagram post. Posting a vintage photo, he captioned,
“90 years of love, strength, and countless sacrifices. Your presence brings joy and positivity to our lives every single day. Grateful to be your child. Happy birthday, Mummy!”

Looking back at her legacy and association

Nirmal Kapoor was married to the late Surinder Kapoor, who left for his eternal rest in 2011. Surinder Kapoor established himself as a producer through movies such as Hum Paanch, Woh Saat Din, Loafer, Judaai, and Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai. His venture into the field of filmmaking was facilitated by legendary director Raj Kapoor. The couple began life in an outhouse belonging to Raj Kapoor’s Chembur property.

The Kapoor family has not made an official statement as of now over Nirmal Kapoor’s death. The industry and fans still provide condolences as tributes are pouring in for a woman who contributed to one of Bollywood’s most respected families.
