During a recent Instagram Live, Malayalam actress Shobana, who starred alongside Amitabh Bachchan in Kalki 2898 AD, shared a touching story from their earlier collaboration in Ahmedabad. She called Bachchan “the most humble artist” she’s worked with and revealed how, even decades later, he treats everyone with kindness .
Shobana Shares An Ancedote About Amitabh’s Kindness
Shobana recounted, “I will share an anecdote about Bachchan sir from a time when I shot for a song with him in Ahmedabad many years ago. For the song, I had loads and loads of clothes wrapped around me. Bachchan sir had his caravan and the entire Ahmedabad came to a standstill because they all crowded to see Amitabh Bachchan. When I asked, ‘where is my caravan’ because I had a lot of costume change to do… Someone on the set randomly said, ‘She is from Kerala, they are very adjustable, she can change behind a tree.’”
She added, “Bachchan sir heard this on the walkie talkie and he immediately came out and yelled, ‘Who said that?’ And then he invited me to his caravan and he stepped out. From then to even now in Kalki, he has so much of tradition and culture.”
Shobana On Amitabh Being Respectful Towards All
“Despite his heavy prosthetic makeup, he would get up to greet every time someone came to meet him. I even told him, ‘Sir, you don’t have to get up to greet everyone.’ And he said, ‘But that is deeply ingrained in me.’”
Shobana emphasised that Bachchan’s respectfulness on that set mirrors how he treated everyone in Kalki, where she played Mariam and he portrayed Ashwatthama. She described him as unwavering in humility, whether facing crew members or royalty.
The film, also starring actors Prabhas, Disha Patani and Kamal Haasan earned over Rs 1000 crore worldwide. The makers are currently preparing for the second instalment of the film.
