Actress Reverses Decision to Withdraw Rape Case Against Mukesh, To Continue Sexual Harassment Case

The legal battle against sexual harassment in the Malayalam film industry will continue, according to a 51-year-old Malayalam actress. She reinforced her commitment on Sunday, highlighting her pursuit of justice, despite previous decisions to withdraw the charges.

Decision to Reconsider

Initially, the actress announced her intention to withdraw the cases, citing despair and a lack of government support. However, she later reconsidered after encouragement from her family. Speaking to the media, she said, “My husband called me and urged me to proceed with the cases. He assured me of full family support, saying there was no reason to back down after the harassment I endured.”

Allegations Against Prominent Actors

The actress has accused several high-profile actors, including CPI(M) MLA M Mukesh, of sexual harassment. She also named Maniyanpilla Raju and Idavela Babu in her complaints. She expressed frustration over alleged attempts to falsely implicate her in a POCSO case, which she believes were intended to intimidate her into silence.

Justice Hema Committee Report

The actress’s allegations align with the findings of the Justice Hema Committee report, which exposed widespread exploitation and harassment of women in the Malayalam film industry. Formed after the 2017 actress assault case, the committee’s report has been submitted to the Kerala High Court and forwarded to the Special Investigation Team (SIT). The SIT has registered 26 FIRs based on the report’s revelations.

Commitment to Justice

Despite challenges, the actress remains determined to pursue the cases. She assured investigators of her cooperation and confirmed she would not withdraw her complaints.
