After staying away from films for months, Aamir Khan is back in the spotlight. This time, it’s not just because of his friendship with Gauri Spratt. Instead, he is making headlines for his new movie, Sitaare Zameen Par.
Earlier, Aamir appeared in a virtual meeting with his China-based fan club. Later, the video surfaced on social media platform X. During the chat, he shared updates about the film that was first announced in October 2023.
He revealed, “Sitaare Zameen Par is almost ready. It is the sequel of Taare Zameen Par. Thematically, it is going ten steps ahead. It is about people who are differently abled. It is about love, friendship and life. Taare Zameen Par made you cry but this film will make you laugh. It’s a comedy but the theme is the same.”
Aamir Plays a Flawed Character
Previously, Aamir played a kind teacher named Nikumbh in Taare Zameen Par. However, in the upcoming film, his character is very different.
He explained, “My character in Taare Zameen Par was Nikumbh, who is a very sensitive person. In this film, my character’s name is Gulshan, but his personality is exactly opposite to Nikumbh’s. He is not sensitive at all. He is very rude, politically incorrect, and he insults everybody. He fights with his wife, mother. He is a basketball coach and he beats up his senior coach. He is a person with a lot of internal problems, and the story is how he changes with the film. How these people in the spectrum teach him what it is to be a good human being.”
Clearly, Aamir has taken on a bold and challenging role.
Inspired by a Real-Life Story
Interestingly, the film draws inspiration from the Spanish movie Champions (2018). That film told the true story of the Aderes basketball team in Valencia, Spain. All the players had intellectual disabilities.
Later, Hollywood also made its version, with Woody Harrelson playing a hot-headed coach who learns to grow.
Now, Aamir offers an Indian version with a local twist. RS Prasanna directs the film. Moreover, Darsheel Safary—who played the lead child in Taare Zameen Par—returns to the screen. Genelia Deshmukh also joins the cast.
Fans Are Thrilled About the Comeback
Although the makers haven’t announced a release date yet, fans are already excited. Many are happy to see Aamir return to emotional storytelling.
