Delhi government representatives visited Mumbai to learn about the various levels of actions taken by the BMC.

MUMBAI

In addition to preventing the spread of Covid-19, BMC is working tirelessly to provide more effective medical treatment to the Covid affected people. Despite many challenges, including population density, the work done by the BMC is being positively acknowledged from time to time at the state, national, and global levels.

In this regard, representatives of the Delhi government recently paid a study visit to Mumbai. The visit was planned under the guidance of BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal. Additional Municipal Commissioner (Western Suburbs) Suresh Kakani held a special meeting, along with a presentation and detailed discussion.

During the visit, a team comprising senior officials of the Delhi Government’s Health Department, Dr Sanjay Agarwal, and Dr Dharmendra Kumar learnt about the various levels of actions taken by the BMC. Decentralisation achieved through Ward War Rooms, successful management of oxygen supply, and jumbo hospitals set up in a short period were taken into consideration. To get the information, the delegates visited the Municipal Jumbo Covid Hospital in Goregaon, Seven Hill Hospital. At the end of this visit, the Delhi Government team said that the work done by BMC is exemplary and the ‘Mumbai model’ will be implemented in Delhi soon.

Representatives of the Delhi government visited the Ward War Room of the two wards, D and K/East, to understand the management of Covid-19 patients and bed allotment by the BMC. Medical test reports of the People, who have been infected by Covid-19, initially sent to Ward War Room. Patients are then telephoned and given basic counselling. After that, as per the requirement, the team of the Municipal Corporation goes to the house of the person and conducts the necessary medical examination. In the meanwhile, if the patient needs to be admitted to the hospital as per the medical treatment order, the patient is admitted to a private or public hospital as per his need. Seeing that all these processes are being done very sensitively and in time, the Delhi government team was overwhelmed by the decentralised order established by the Municipal Corporation through the ‘Ward War Room’.

At the 1,800-bed Seven Hills Hospital under the jurisdiction of the BMC, 18 metric tons of oxygen is sufficient. However, a 1,800-bed Delhi government-run hospital with the same number of beds needs 32 metric tonnes of oxygen per day. Representatives of the Delhi government also inquired about how the BMC has established an effective system for the proper use of oxygen.

While administering oxygen in the municipal hospitals, oxygen is supplied to the hospitaliSed patients as per the medical treatment order and as per the requirement. Strict planning and management of this oxygen supply have been achieved in the municipal hospitals. Some nurses at the hospital level have been trained in oxygen management. At the same time, oxygen supply technicians are constantly working in all the hospitals and they are constantly monitoring the oxygen supply and taking appropriate action.

To provide effective treatment to the patients suffering from Covid-19 in its jurisdiction, the BMC has set up six temporary Jumbo Covid Hospitals in a short period. There are 8,915 beds in these six hospitals and more than 4000 people are working continuously in these places.

The representatives of the Delhi government were very keen on receiving information about the construction and management of these hospitals. They visited the Jumbo Covid Hospital set up by the Municipal Corporation at the Nesco Exhibition Centre in Goregaon. They took a detailed look at the facilities available there and the various measures being taken. They also got detailed information about the ‘Dialysis Bed’, ‘ICU Bed’, and ‘Oxygen Bed’ at this place. Talking to senior doctors of Nesco Jumbo Covid Hospital they said that soon Jumbo Hospitals will be set up in Delhi following the same model.

Representatives of the Delhi government lauded the system of distribution of 80% beds and all the beds in the intensive care unit of private hospitals in the BMC area through the BMC Ward War Room. We are overwhelmed to see the positive and active contribution of private hospitals in this system, the group said.
