The MPs who were fielded by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in these elections and won their respective constituencies have resigned from the Parliament, days after the party won three assembly elections in the Hindi heartland. Ten members of parliament have resigned so far. Renuka Singh and Baba Balaknath, two additional MPs, did not visit the house today. The delegation of these MPs was led by BJP President J.P. Nadda when they met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Speaker of the Lok Sabha Om Birla, and Chairman and Vice President of the Rajya Sabha Jagdeep Dhankar.
Sources said that the decision to resign as MPs was taken after a meeting with party president JP Nadda and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
After winning from Madhya Pradesh, former minister of agriculture Narendra Singh Tomar, minister of state for food processing industries of India Prahlad Singh Patel, and members of the Lok Sabha Rakesh Singh, Uday Pratap, and Riti Pathak resigned from their positions. Arun Sao and Gomati Sai, two Lok Sabha MPs, resigned following their victories in Chhattisgarh. Following their victories in Rajasthan, Rajya Sabha MP Kirori Lal Meena, Lok Sabha MP Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, and Diya Kumari have also tendered their resignations.
