In a strategic move ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is gearing up for a massive campaign to add over one crore new voters through its Voter Awareness Campaign. The initiative will be implemented across approximately 1.62 lakh booths in Uttar Pradesh, with the goal of increasing the voter count by 100 at each booth.
Special focus on universities and colleges
Expanding its outreach, the BJP plans to conduct special camps in universities and degree colleges. The objective is not only to add names to the voter list but also to facilitate modifications. The party aims to connect specifically with young and female voters, acknowledging their crucial role in shaping electoral outcomes. The special drive will target adding the names of individuals who will turn 18 by January 1, 2024, to the voter list.
District-wise strategy for voter registration
District officials, along with Members of Parliament (MPs), Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs), and district panchayat heads, have been assigned the task of achieving the ambitious goal. BJP’s Organisational General Secretary, Dharmapal, kickstarted the campaign during a meeting with officials from the Awadh region.
Voter awareness mega campaign unveiled
In the coming days, as part of the ‘Voter Awareness Mega Campaign,’ the BJP aims to secure victory on all 80 seats in the Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh. The comprehensive campaign seeks to add over one crore voters and eliminate 25 fake votes. District officials are tasked with increasing the voter list by 20,000 new voters in each assembly constituency area, with a special emphasis on boosting the number of female and young voters.
60% voter turnout target
The BJP’s overarching goal is to achieve a 60% voter turnout on election day. With 1.61 lakh booths in Uttar Pradesh, party workers are directed to obtain voter lists for their respective booths. The recent increase in the maximum number of voters per booth to 1,500, up from 1,200, necessitates the addition of new booths to each assembly constituency. The expansion aims to accommodate more voters, and the BJP plans to facilitate new registrations by distributing forms. Party activists will guide individuals on the registration process during this outreach.
MPs and MLAs mobilise voter registration
Efforts are underway to actively involve Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) in the campaign to register new voters. Personal visits to households by MPs and MLAs will focus on individuals aged 18 and above, ensuring their inclusion in the voter list. Grassroots-level workers, armed with Form 6 from the Election Commission, will guide individuals through the registration process and ensure the accurate inclusion of new voters.
Emphasising correction and online registration
Workers will also play a pivotal role in correcting discrepancies in registered names at distant booths or centres. Additionally, households will be informed about online and smartphone-based registration options, with workers guiding them on where to submit the voter registration form.
As the BJP intensifies its efforts, the ‘Voter Awareness Mega Campaign’ is poised to shape the electoral landscape in Uttar Pradesh, setting the stage for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The BJP has had a unique electoral strategy for UP as it wants to win all the 80 seats in the state in 2024.
