BJP gears up for 2021 Bengal polls, forms 20 teams for election management

Just ahead of the 2021 Assembly elections in West Bengal, the BJP has formalised its election management team on Wednesday that will lead the party into the polls that is likely to be held in May next year.

The BJP has created 30 departments in the election management team for the 2021 elections which will be headed by senior leaders of the party.

The manifesto team, which consists of 15 members, will be headed by Anupam Hazra, who will be responsible for drafting the election manifesto for the party. Hazra is also the national secretary of the BJP. The manifesto team will also be co-headed by Dr Subhas Sarkar who is a BJP MP from Bankura.

Hazra has also been appointed as the in-charge of the Dharmik and Samajik management team. This team would coordinate and organise all religious and cultural programmes of the party ahead of the 2021 elections.

The other important team that has been constituted by the BJP as part of the election management team includes the political issue team headed by Jayprakash Mazumdar. This team which consists of six other members will decide on the political issues in the state and will be responsible for organising and holding political rallies in West Bengal. Mazumdar is the vice-president of the state unit of the BJP. His appointment is being considered significant since he has been with the party for a very long time and has a grasp of the political understanding of Bengal.

While Sanjay Singh, general secretary of the BJP and a senior member of the RSS, who is considered to be very close to the central leadership, has been given the responsibility to organise and look after all the programmes of the Prime Minister. He has been appointed as in-charge of Pradhan Mantri Karyakaram in the election management team of the BJP in Bengal. The party’s booth management committee in Bengal would be headed by Biswapriya Roy Chowdhury who is also the BJP’s Bengal unit vice-president. The booth management team will consist of nine other members, including Archana Mazumdar, who is appointed as the co-in charge of the committee. Sabyasachi Dutta, MLA from Rajarhat and also the secretary of the BJP’s Bengal unit, has been appointed as the in-charge of the administration team of the BJP’s election management team. Dutta is an inductee from the TMC who joined the BJP last year after he fell out with TMC chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Dutta is also believed to have a lot of clout in the New Town-Rajarhat area of Kolkata.

BJP MP from Hooghly, Locket Chatterjee, has also been incorporated in the election management team and has been given the responsibility to organise and oversee the big rallies for the party in the state ahead of the Assembly elections. She has also been given the responsibility for coordination of all the BJP MPs from the state.

While Ujjawal Pareek has been made the social media in-charge, the party’s IT cell would be looked after by Jay Mallik. Bijay Ojha and Nikhil Singh of the state BJP would be responsible for looking after the publicity of the party.

Some of the other teams that has been formed as part of the election management team for the BJP in Bengal include the legal team headed by S.K. Kapoor, the joining team headed by Sayantan Basu, the data collection team headed by Rajib Biswas, the vistarak team headed by Dipanjan Guha, the Mann Ki Baat team headed by Tanuja Chakraborty, the NRI coordination team led by Kalyan Choueby, and the Yuva Refugee and Matua programme team headed by Debjit Sarkar.
