The politics over hoisting of Tricolour has reached another level in the national capital. Delhi BJP MP Manoj Tiwari on Sunday put a 40-feet Tricolour flag in the Ghonda assembly to woo the heart of Delhiites and alleged that Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has stolen his idea.
BJP MP said, “Kejriwal has stolen BJP’s idea and now claiming it to be his. I would advise him to adopt the nationalists’ spirit of BJP instead of just copy-paste. The BJP has been already flagging tricolour. This is the fourth tricolour flag of forty feet we have planted here. People of BJP are already putting the tricolour flags. The tricolour should be respected.”
Tiwari slammed the Delhi government for not adopting the ethos of Tricolour rather taking side with rioters and sharing the stage at Shaheen Bagh which was the source of the Delhi riots, last year. “Kejriwal has even shared the stage with farmers who disrespected the tricolour on the most auspicious day which was on January 26. He should understand the fact that hoisting tricolour is a great idea but hoisting the real idea behind it is foremost,” he said to The Sunday Guardian. Emphasising the idea behind it, Tiwari informed that the BJP will walk the talk. “Sabka Sath Sabka Vikaas is our motto and we are executing that only by taking everyone’s concern,” he added.
Responding to Tiwari’s allegations, Saurabh Bharadwaj, chief spokesperson, AAP, hit back and said that what Tiwari is saying is far from reality. “For 52 years, the Jana Sangh, parent party of BJP, did not hoist the tricolour flag in its headquarters. They never believed in tricolour, it’s just from last few years his party has started hoisting the tricolour flag at the party headquarters.”
Adding further, Bharadwaj told The Sunday Guardian that the Delhi Chief Minister has already started an initiative to hoist 500 Tricolours to commemorate the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi has started Amrit Mahotsav of Independence on 12 March to perpetuate the 75th anniversary of the country’s Independence. While participating in the Mahotsav, the Prime Minister recalled the historical day when Mahatma Gandhi on the same day in 1930 started the journey from Sabarmati to Dandi against the monopoly of Britishers over salt tax. While on the same day, the Chief Minister of Delhi organised a colourful program in the Central Park of Connaught Place and talked about placing the tricolour flag at 500 places.”
Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Sunday that his government has decided to discuss patriotism in schools every day for an hour to make students “kattar deshbhakts”.
Speaking at an event, the CM said, “Patriotism is not taught in our schools. We have decided to discuss patriotism every day for an hour in schools to make students ‘kattar deshbhakts’. We will also take teachings of Bhagat Singh and BR Ambedkar to every household.” Kejriwal also laid foundation stone of sewage project in Kirari. He said, “We have allocated Rs 500 crores budget for the sewage project in Kirari. We want your (public) support to complete the project before four years. Please cooperate when the work starts.”
