In the 2020 Bihar Legislative Assembly election, Shalini Mishra of the Janata Dal (United) or JD(U) won the Kesaria seat. She received 40,219 votes, securing 26.59% of the total votes. Sanstosh Kushwaha from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) came second with 30,992 votes, which was 20.49%, showing a major drop of 27.06% compared to the previous election. Ram Sharan Prasad Yadav of the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) stood third with 18,904 votes (12.5%), followed closely by Maheshwar Singh of the Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP), who got 18,576 votes (12.28%).
