President Joe Biden’s personal physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, issued a statement on Monday to address public concerns regarding the President’s health following the June 27th presidential debate. Dr. O’Connor confirmed that outside of his routine annual physical examination, President Biden has not consulted a neurologist.
“In the interests of accuracy and with permission from both President Biden and Dr. Cannard, I am sharing details about the medical care provided,” Dr. O’Connor stated, emphasizing the usual privacy protocols maintained by the White House Medical Unit.
According to Dr. O’Connor, President Biden undergoes an extensive annual physical that includes evaluations by specialists in Optometry, Dentistry, Orthopedics (Foot and Ankle), Orthopedics (Spine), Physical Therapy, Neurology, Sleep Medicine, Cardiology, Radiology, and Dermatology. The findings from Biden’s February health exam were also disclosed.
“The report from the exam indicated that President Biden’s neurologic examination showed no signs consistent with cerebellar or other central neurological disorders, such as stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, or ascending lateral sclerosis,” the statement detailed. It further noted Biden’s ongoing peripheral neuropathy in both feet but confirmed the absence of motor weakness or tremors.
Addressing recent debate performance criticisms, administration officials attributed Biden’s occasional confused responses to factors such as a head cold, jet lag, and inadequate preparation at Camp David. These explanations have surfaced amidst heightened scrutiny of the 81-year-old President’s health as the November election approaches.
Concerns over the President’s health have become a focal point for voters, with public interest amplified following the debate against Republican candidate Donald Trump. Dr. O’Connor’s statement aims to reassure the public regarding President Biden’s health status, highlighting regular medical assessments and ongoing care as part of his presidential duties.
The White House has not released additional comments on the matter following Dr. O’Connor’s statement.
