US President Joe Biden is currently experiencing “mild upper respiratory symptoms” from a recent COVID-19 infection and is continuing to take Paxlovid, as reported by his physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor. According to a statement from the White House, Biden does not have a fever, and his vital signs are stable. Dr. O’Connor confirmed, “The President is still experiencing mild upper respiratory symptoms associated with his recent COVID-19 infection. He continues to receive Paxlovid. He does not have a fever and his vital signs remain normal. He will continue to conduct the business of the American people.” He also noted, “With the President’s permission, I will continue to provide regular updates, as we have done before.”

Biden, 81, tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, a day after attending the NAACP National Convention in Las Vegas, where he criticized Donald Trump’s policies and spoke out against rising gun violence. The White House stated that Biden will return to Delaware for self-isolation but will maintain his duties during this period. Biden, who is fully vaccinated and received a booster in September 2023, reassured reporters before leaving Las Vegas that he felt fine and boarded Air Force One without a mask.

Following his positive test, Biden tweeted, “I tested positive for COVID-19 this afternoon, but I am feeling good and thank everyone for the well wishes.” He added, “I will be isolating as I recover, and during this time I will continue to work to get the job done for the American people.” Dr. O’Connor noted that Biden’s symptoms include a runny nose, non-productive cough, and general malaise. Initially feeling well enough for his first event of the day, Biden’s symptoms persisted, leading to a COVID-19 test that confirmed the infection. He will self-isolate at his Rehoboth home, following CDC guidelines for symptomatic individuals. The White House report specified that Biden’s respiratory rate, temperature, and pulse oximetry are normal.

Previously, in July 2022, Biden tested positive for COVID-19 for the first time and later experienced a rebound infection, requiring a second isolation period.
