A delegation from the National Human Rights Commission filed a report in the Kolkata High Court on Wednesday in a post-poll violence case. However, the commission said that the report was incomplete and asked the court for more time.

The commission compiled the report after inspecting various areas affected by post-poll political violence following a court order in the wake of public interest litigation. Subir Sanal, a member of the National Human Rights Commission, told the court, “A delegation of the commission arrived in Kolkata on 24 June. From there, they divided into five to six groups and visited the affected areas.

The commission’s lawyer called for the creation of five permanent nodal points so that people can report violence without hindrance. The commission told the High Court on Wednesday that the report submitted was an internal report. The members of the commission have not been able to visit many areas yet. As a result, this report cannot be called complete. Give some more time for the full report.

Priyanka Tibrewal supported the commission’s plea. She said the commission members had to go to Jadavpur on Tuesday to inspect the situation and face protests. She also complained that no action has been taken by the state administration in this regard.

However, State Advocate General Kishore Dutt said the state government was cooperating with the commission in all possible ways. He said that the report submitted by the commission should be given to all the parties. However, he opposed the commission’s request for more time to the court for a full report.

During the hearing, the court said it was not possible to see such a large report in such a short time. The five-judge bench asked for more time to scrutinise the entire report. The next hearing is on 2 July.
