A special court in Mumbai on Thursday extended the NIA custody of suspended Mumbai police officer Sachin Vaze till April 3. Suspended police officer Sachin Waze, arrested in the Mukesh Ambani explosives scare case, had a considerable amount of unaccounted for ammunition in his house and should be questioned further, the National Investigation Agency said today. Vaze’s remand with the agency, which is investigating the whole issue, ended on Thursday.
Vaze’s claimed he is being made a scapegoat in the case, but the court agreed with the probe agency and granted them further custody till April 3. “We want the custody of the accused for further investigation,” the NIA told the court. According to sources, Vaze had allegedly confessed before the NIA to planting the explosives near Ambani’s residence as he wanted to become a “super cop” by solving the case successfully.
Sixty-two bullets have been found from Vaze’s house, which are unaccounted for, the investigators said. “Only 5 of the 30 bullets given for his service revolver have been found. The accused is not telling where the rest went,” the NIA added.
Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh on Thursday filed a petition in Bombay High Court challenging his transfer from the top post. The former commissioner has also sought a CBI inquiry against Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh into alleged corrupt malpractices. In the application submitted to the High Court Param Bir Singh has mentioned that, “his officer was directly instructed by Anil Deshmukh for extorting money for posting and transfer of police officers”. Rashmi Shukla also raised questions regarding this and submitted the report. ACP Sanjay Patil of social service branch was called by the home minister and home minister was targeting the collection of Rs 50 crore from 1750 restaurants and bars.
The Home minister was demanding Rs 100 crore from various officers and was calling Sachin Vaze bypassing his seniors. In the 106-page petition to the Bombay High Court, Param Bir Singh has mentioned about the Prakash Singh vs Union of India case judgement. Vaze was arrested for his links with Mansukh Hiran, the man who owned the SUV in which the explosives were found.
