Amidst the ongoing discussion regarding Gautam Gambhir as a potential replacement for Rahul Dravid, Dronacharya awardee coach Rajkumar Sharma has proposed a surprise candidate for the head coach position.

Even though, BCCI is still quiet about the names, that have applied for the post, but if one is to read between the lines of BCCI’s secretary last statement, Dravid’s replacement is most likely to be indian.

But Virat Kohli’s childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma had a different opinion altogether. the coach suggested the name of greatest cricketer MS Dhoni.

Talking about Dhoni’s candidature, Sharma said this.

“First of all, it will be interesting to see which names apply for this post. I would like that whoever becomes the coach should be an Indian. If Mahendra Singh Dhoni announces retirement, he can prove to be a good option. He (Dhoni) has played a lot of cricket and has won big tournaments”. said the coach at India News Program CRICIT PREDICTA.

Elaborating more on his opinion, sharma further added, that Dhoni will enjoy the respect of the dressing room and has played T20 format for a long time.

“Dhoni will have more respect in the dressing room and he has played this format for a long time. Being able to plan for the team and manage it properly, is most needed in the team because when Dhoni became the captain, there were big players in that team like Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, Harbhajan Singh, Anil Kumble, Gautam Gambhir, and Yuvraj Singh were present. Despite this, Dhoni handled the team brilliantly.” added sharma.

Earlier, Dhoni has worked with indian team as a mentor during 2021 T20 World cup campaign, which was held in UAE.

Will Dhoni Retire?

But despite T20 world cup under the corner, Dhoni, hasn’t announced his IPL retirement yet, even though 2024 IPL edition was set to be his last. Nevertheless, the speculations are still ongoing.

CSK CEO Kasi Viswanath, even announced, that he’s still expecting Dhoni to play another IPL season. As a result, it has triggered more speculations over his retirement.
