According to preliminary reports, the early Wednesday morning shooting at the Bathinda Military Station that killed four soldiers appeared to be an internal issue because a rifle with ammunition had gone missing for the previous two days, Indian Army sources said.

They said that search operations are underway inside the military station, which has dense plantation in some areas. According to the Indian Army, four army jawans from an artillery unit died as a result of gunshot wounds sustained during the incident.

According to the Army, an INSAS rifle and 28 rounds have been reported missing for the past two days. According to the Army statement, no other personnel injuries or property damage were reported as a result of the incident.

Meanwhile, the area has been cordoned off, and the Army and Punjab Police are conducting joint investigations to determine the facts of the case.

The Indian Army released a statement and revealed “The area continues to be sealed off and joint investigations with Punjab Police are being coordinated to establish the facts of the case. All aspects including the possible case of involvement of an INSAS rifle along with 28 rounds reported missing two days back are being ascertained.”
