A barista in Washington became embroiled in a heated altercation with a customer, culminating in her smashing the customer’s car windshield with a hammer. The incident, captured on video, occurred at Taste of Heaven Espresso in south Seattle on June 11, according to Fox News.

The video, shared on Instagram by @foxnews, depicts a customer throwing two drinks through the drive-through window before returning to his vehicle. At this point, Emma Lee, the barista, shattered the car’s windshield.

Lee, 23, explained that the confrontation began after a contentious 15-minute argument over the cost of a coffee and water order, as reported by Fox News. “You don’t get to name your own price,” Lee said in her defense.

Lee detailed that the regular customer had ordered a large coffee and water, typically totaling around $22 (Rs 1,836, approximately), though she usually charged him $20 (Rs 1,669, approximately). However, he insisted on paying less this time. “No one is forcing you to come here,” Lee stressed, noting that all prices are clearly displayed.

Lee claimed that the customer became aggressive, yelling, spitting, and trying to force open the drive-through window. In response to these actions, Lee felt the need to protect herself and her property.

Lee has filed misdemeanor and assault charges against the customer, according to Fox News. The customer has been banned from the establishment, reported KCPQ, a local outlet.

The incident has sparked an online debate, with some supporting Lee’s actions as self-defense, while others question the proportionality of her response.

One user commented, “he needs jail.” Another remarked, “I love how uniformly everyone is supporting the girl here. Even across political lines. Also ‘bikini-clad barista’ is an insane line. This isn’t the 1950s.”

A third user said, “Girl, that’s not enough.. you should do more and harder.” Another added, “What is wrong with people that he thinks it’s okay to throw a drink at someone? People are really losing their minds and acting entitled and rude over nothing.”
