The body of a 40-year-old banker, Sushant Chakravarti, who reportedly stopped his car on Mumbai’s Atal Setu and jumped into the sea, was recovered on the seashore in Navi Mumbai on Tuesday, according to the police.

Chakravarti’s identity was confirmed by officials through CCTV footage and personal belongings, including a ring, car keys, and the watch he was wearing. Navi Mumbai’s JNPT police registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and have begun further investigation.

The incident came to light when the Shivdi police were informed that a man had jumped into the sea from the Atal Setu bridge. Upon arriving at the scene, they found a car parked at the edge of the bridge, which was later identified as belonging to Chakravarti.

Chakravarti, who resided in Mumbai’s Parel area with his wife and daughter, worked as a deputy manager at a government bank in Hutatma Chowk, Fort. His wife informed the police that he had been under stress due to work, but no suicide note or other relevant information was found on his mobile phone.

On Monday morning, Chakravarti had left home, claiming he was headed to work. However, instead of going to the bank, he drove to the Atal Setu and jumped into the sea. CCTV footage from the bridge’s control room captured the incident at 9:57 AM, after which rescue teams were deployed with speedboats to search for him.
