Haryana’s Home Minister Anil Vij has ordered a thorough investigation into a serious incident involving the accidental release of a prisoner from Ambala Jail. On Tuesday, Vij expressed concern over the matter and directed the jail director-general to probe the case. Vij stated that he had also discussed the incident with the prison administration, which informed him that another individual was mistakenly released instead of the person granted bail.
Terming it a ‘serious matter,’ Minister Anil Vij emphasized that such errors could result in the prison administration wrongfully releasing individuals. The incident came to Vij’s attention on Tuesday while he was addressing public complaints at his residence in Ambala. According to an official statement, despite being granted bail, the family members of the wrongly released prisoner alleged that Ambala Jail administration had registered a ‘false case’ against him.
Subsequently, Vij spoke with the Jail Director-General over the phone and instructed him to investigate the case thoroughly and take strict action against the culpable officials. Meanwhile, official sources revealed that the Ambala Jail administration has initiated action against two jail employees in connection with this incident, and an inquiry is underway. The incident revolves around a family from the village of Balana in Ambala, alleging that their son, involved in a dispute, was in Ambala Central Jail. He had been granted bail a few days ago, and when the family arrived to take him home, the jail administration informed them that their son had already been released on bail. This led to the revelation of the incident.
