In the wake of the horrifying Shraddha Walker murder case in the capital, another comparable case involving the severance and disposal of a woman’s body in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, has come to light.
The deceased, Aradhana Prajapati, whose body was found in Paschim Patti village in the Ahraula police station of the Azamgarh district, according to the Azamgarh Police, has been identified as the deceased, and Prince Yadav, the primary accused in the case, has been taken into custody.
The family partially confirmed the identity of the deceased when approached by the police, but they were not persuaded because the skull was missing, according to the police statement.
Following this, on November 19, the police detained Prince Yadav, whom they later discovered to be the deceased girl’s ex-boyfriend, according to the police.
According to the police, Prince admitted his involvement in the crime after being questioned. According to the police statement, after taking Prince to the crime scene, the police were able to recover the woman’s head from a pond some six kilometres away from the well after he was positively identified.
According to the police, Prince was apprehended on Sunday after an incident during which he attempted to flee from the location where the police had taken him in order to collect the woman’s missing head. According to the police, Prince’s cousin, Sarvesh Yadav, another suspect in the event, has fled.
According to the authorities, a total of nine people were either directly involved in carrying out the woman’s murder plot or harbouring the criminals.
Anurag Arya, Superintendent of Police in Azamgarh, stated in a statement, “On November 16, the body of an unnamed woman was discovered in a well. The remainder of the body was there, but the head was gone. For the police, it was a dilemma because the crime involved women. Five police teams were assigned to the case to investigate it. Today’s arrest of the defendant took place. Prince Yadav, the main suspect in the case, was detained today following a police encounter. He was wounded by a bullet in his right leg. He had illegal weapons that were recovered.”
The official said that the accused had a relationship with the deceased two years ago. The woman was married in February of this year, when Prince was outside the country. Upon learning about the marriage, the accused returned to the country and plotted to kill the woman.
“After the interrogation, it came to light that he had a relationship with the deceased two years ago. The deceased was married this year in February. He was outside the country then. When he learned about her marriage, he was offended and returned to India. He attempted to threaten the deceased with breaking her marriage and also lured her to stay with him. He was aided by his relatives, which include his maternal side and also his parents. When the woman did not agree, he, along with his parents and cousin named Sarvesh, hatched a plan to kill her and dump her body in such a way that it could not be recovered and he could not be caught,” the police official said.
The deceased’s clothing and other pieces of evidence have been recovered, according to Arya.
“Based on the interrogation, the police have recovered everything. The clothes of the deceased have also been recovered. The wooden log on which the incident took place has been recovered. Evidence collection has been done in the field. There are a total of nine accused, of whom one, Prince Yadav, has been arrested. The other accused, Sarvesh Yadav, who is Prince’s uncle’s son, is absconding. An award of Rs 25,000 has also been announced,” he said.
The other accused in the incident will be arrested soon, the official said.
“There are 7 others who were involved either in the planning of the incident or in harbouring the culprits. They will be arrested soon,” he said.
