Following the footsteps of Tirupati Balaji, the renowned Hanuman Garhi Laddu from Ayodhya has now been officially registered for the Geographical Indication (GI) tag.
The GI tag serves as a certification signifying specific attributes that distinguish a product from others. In India, the GI tag was introduced on September 15, 2003, with Darjeeling Tea being the first Indian product to receive this recognition.
Expressing his joy over the registration of the Hanuman Garhi Laddu for the GI tag, devotee Manish Singh, who has been visiting the Hanuman Garhi temple for a decade, stated, “It is a matter of great pride for all of us.” He added, “It is a great achievement.”
The Hanumang Garhi Laddu maker extended gratitude to the government for taking this initiative, saying, “It is a matter of great joy for not only all the citizens of Ayodhya but also for Modak Samaj. I want to thank the government for this great initiative. This is just like icing on the cake, as we are inaugurating Ram Mandir on the one hand, and on the other hand, Hanumangarhi Laddu has been registered for the GI tag.”
Highlighting the historical significance of the Hanuman Garhi Laddu, the maker emphasized its age-old popularity, with people carrying it to distant places. The uniqueness lies in the various methods of preparation, yet universally appealing taste. The world-famous temple of Bajrangbali Hanuman Garhi is located in Ayodhya, where Lord Hanuman is regarded as the Kotwal (guardian) of Ayodhya, and it is believed that the darshan of Lord Ram is possible only with his permission.
