Fifth tranche of relief material sent to Nepal

India delivered the fifth installment of relief material to the earthquake impacted Nepal on Thursday. The material included pre-fabricated houses, as aid assistance from India to support the victims of the natural disaster. The earthquake hit the Western Nepal. On Friday, EAM S. Jaishankar announced the arrival and delivery of the relief material to Nepal earthquake vicitms.

Expressing solidarity, Jaishankar highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to providing assistance promptly, with emergency relief initiated within 48 hours of the earthquake. He stated, “Five tranches of such relief have already been supplied to the affected people, including one consisting of pre-fabricated houses which were handed over yesterday to the people in the earthquake-affected districts.”

Jaishankar also revealed a reconstruction aid package from the Indian government to Nepal amounting to 1000 Crore Nepali Rupees (approximately 75 million USD). He conveyed this decision to Prime Minister Prachanda, stating, “I also communicated yesterday to Prime Minister Prachanda Ji – our decision to extend a financial package of Nepali rupees 1000 crore (75 million USD) for the reconstruction of the infrastructure in these affected districts.”

In addition to the relief efforts, the External Affairs Minister, along with Nepali Foreign Minister NP Saud, inaugurated the newly constructed building of the Tribhuvan University Central Library. Jaishankar highlighted the concrete delivery of commitments made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Nepal’s post-earthquake reconstruction. Furthermore, he inaugurated 25 schools, 32 health facilities, and a culture sector project under the post-2015 earthquake reconstruction program in Kathmandu.

Expressing gratitude, Nepali Foreign Minister NP Saud acknowledged the substantial financial support from the Government of India in the reconstruction efforts following the 2015 earthquake and the recent earthquake in Jajarkot. He emphasized the successful rebuilding of private homes in Gorkha and Nuwakot Districts, as well as the reconstruction of educational institutions, health facilities, and cultural heritage sites with India’s support.
