A 16-year-old girl named Layla Khan from the UK has passed away due to a blood clot just weeks after taking a contraceptive pill. According to a report in The Telegraph, Layla had been suffering from severe period pain, prompting her friends to suggest using a contraceptive pill to alleviate her symptoms. She began taking the pills on November 25, but by December 5, she started experiencing intense headaches. As the week progressed, Layla began vomiting.
Concerned about her condition, Layla’s family took her to seek medical assistance after she vomited every 30 minutes. At the GP’s clinic, despite her continuous illness, she was given anti-sickness tablets and diagnosed with a stomach bug. The family claims that when they called the 111 National Health Service helpline, they were assured that there were no alarming signs.
However, Layla’s condition deteriorated rapidly, and she started screaming in pain. Realizing the severity of the situation, her family decided to rush her to the hospital. Tragically, Layla collapsed in the bathroom and faced difficulty with her legs. With immense difficulty, her aunt and mother carried her to the car, where she became unresponsive.
Upon reaching the nearest hospital in Grimsby, a CT scan revealed a blood clot in Layla’s brain. She underwent surgery on December 13, but the following day, she was declared brain-dead.
The devastating news has left Layla’s family in shock and disbelief. Her aunt, Jenna Braithwaite, expressed their profound grief and questioned the medical response, saying, “Words can’t even describe how devastated our family is. We cannot understand why they said there were no red flags, and then the day later she’s brain-dead. It’s incomprehensible. We are absolutely devastated.”
Layla’s family revealed that she was considered a prospective Oxford student by her professors. In a remarkable act of generosity amidst their anguish, the family donated Layla’s organs, which have now saved five lives just days before Christmas.
