The three shooters who killed gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad on Saturday, Lavalesh Tiwari, Sunny Singh, and Arun Maurya, were transferred from Prayagraj’s Naini Central Jail to Pratapgarh District Jail by the Uttar Pradesh Police on Monday. The transfer was made on administrative grounds.
After being sentenced to 14 days in judicial custody on Sunday, the three shooters were transferred to Naini jail. All three accused have been separated from other prisoners and are being closely monitored by jail officials.
Atiq Ahmad, wanted in over 100 cases, including the murder of lawyer Umesh Pal, was killed along with his brother Ashraf in Prayagraj while being taken for a medical examination. The three shooters pretended to be journalists and opened fire on the Ahmad brothers in full view of camera crews. Following the killing, the shooters immediately surrendered and were apprehended.
Atiq Ahmad was killed on the same day his son Asad Ahmad was buried after being killed in an alleged encounter with UP police.
