Atiq Ahmad , a gangster-turned-politician, and his brother Ashraf were shot dead on Saturday in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj while in police custody for a medical check-up. The shooting occurred on the campus of MLN Medical College.
The three assassins of the Ahmad brothers, who pretended to be journalists in the midst of a media interaction, have been apprehended and identified. Three people were detained, identified as Arun Maurya, Lavlesh Tiwari, and Sunny Singh, but no official statement on their names was issued.
The shooting was captured on camera as reporters followed the two as they were escorted to the hospital by police for a medical check-up around 10 p.m.
After killing Atiq and his brother, the killers can be heard shouting “Jai Shri Ram” in shocking videos that have surfaced online.
