A ground-level survey of the Hyderabad Parliamentary constituency was conducted by India News to analyse the performance of Asaduddin Owaisi, the Member of Parliament from Hyderabad, and gather voters’ feedback about him.

Hyderabad, known as the city of Nizams and pearls, is a centre for information technology and biotechnology in India. In 1591, Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah established Hyderabad on the banks of the Musi River, a few miles away from the old Golconda fort.
Hyderabad has also been a hub for the trade of diamonds, with the famous Kohinoor diamond in the crown of Queen Elizabeth rooted in the Golconda mines.
Currently, Asaduddin Owaisi of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) represents the Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat.

Asaduddin Owaisi’s father, Salahuddin Owaisi, was also a politician and served as a Member of Parliament from Hyderabad for more than two decades.
Asaduddin Owaisi gained prominence in the politics of the southern states of India when he was elected as the MP from Hyderabad in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections. He is the National President of AIMIM. After being elected in 2004, he continued to win in the 2009, 2014, and 2019 general elections.

Owaisi is recognised as a leader of Muslims in India. He believes in the progress of Indian Muslims and fights for their rights. Owaisi is known for expressing his opinions boldly on various issues and controversies, standing against both the central and state governments.
Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana, holds one of the Lok Sabha seats, traditionally dominated by the Congress. However, the Owaisi family has held a stronghold on this seat for more than three decades, with no other party winning it since 1984.
The pace of development in Hyderabad has been rapid, especially after the IT revolution.

Despite the changing image, the benefits of development have not reached the majority of the population living below the poverty line. The Owaisi family has been securing votes for years, but the ground reality seems to show only rhetoric in the name of development.
The Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency has approximately 1.9 million voters. Voters unite on development issues in the new Hyderabad, but in Muslim-dominated areas, votes are cast based on religious considerations, consistently favouring the Owaisi family for the past 35 years.

Although the Owaisi family has maintained dominance on this seat since 1984, their politics primarily revolves around Muslim voters, leaving much to be desired in terms of development in Muslim-majority areas.
The identity of old Hyderabad is associated with urban dirt and disorder, while the new Hyderabad portrays continuous development. This inequality is evident in the Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency, highlighting numerous issues that require urgent attention.
The 2024 general elections for the Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat are particularly significant, as voters are keenly evaluating the work of their representative before casting their votes.
India News is conducting accurate surveys to gauge public opinion on the performance of the Member of Parliament, presenting the people’s views before the nation.
Attendance in Parliament, number of questions asked, utilization of MP funds, and special contributions are the basis for evaluating parliamentary performance. Asaduddin Owaisi’s attendance in Parliament is approximately 71%.

He has directed about 97% of his questions towards the development of his constituency and the country, which is commendable. In terms of MP funds, around 85% of the allocated funds have been spent, and he has shown a special contribution of about 65%, resulting in a score of 0.79, which is quite good.
In the survey of six questions, the Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituents have provided diverse responses. Most people believe that the MP’s work in the constituency is better than average. Initially, the focus of the MP on development in the constituency was higher, but it has been decreasing.

It is evident that the constituents are neither happy nor dissatisfied with their MP’s work, but they want to see more active involvement in the constituency. Despite the overall satisfaction with the Modi government’s work, there seems to be reluctance in casting votes.
Regarding development issues in the Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency, the public rates Asaduddin Owaisi at number 7, giving him a score of 3.78, which is better than average. Based on the questions asked on the ground, a score of around 54% is obtained, which can be considered better than average but less than 60%.
In India News’ survey, the public gives Owaisi a score of 0.70 for ground performance, which is approximately 70%, reflecting good performance. On social media, Owaisi receives a score of 0.55, or 55%, which is better than average.

Taking into account the scores from parliamentary performance, ground performance, social media survey, and our ground survey, Asaduddin Owaisi receives an overall score of 5.82, which is better than average but less than 60%. Therefore, the public of the Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency rates Owaisi ‘FIFTY-FIFTY’, indicating a mixed opinion.
In conclusion, after interacting with thousands of people in the Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency, India News presents an interesting set of data. The public’s opinions vary across gender, occupation, and religious lines. Asaduddin Owaisi is scoring less than 60% in our evaluation criteria, resulting in a ‘FIFTY-FIFTY’ verdict from the constituents.
