Security personnel confiscated a sizable amount of illegal substances in Mizoram’s Aizawl on Monday night, worth more than Rs 30.84 crore, according to officials.

Another person was apprehended by security personnel.

Aizawl Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles, under the supervision of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), discovered 92,550 methamphetamine pills worth Rs 30,84,99,691 in the Falkland Veng area of Aizawl district.

Based on specific intelligence, a joint team composed of the Assam Rifles, 19FIT DGAR FIU, and Excise and Narcotics Department, Aizawl, conducted the operation.

According to a senior Assam Rifles official, the combined team on Monday at Falkland Veng initiated a Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) based on the information it had been given.

“The team noticed the movement of the suspected vehicle at around 8 pm. The vehicle was stopped and a thorough spot-check was carried out. During the check, it was revealed that an individual was carrying methamphetamine tablets. The entire consignment of methamphetamine tablets was seized in situ and the individual was taken into custody by the joint team,” the official said.

The recovered methamphetamine tablets are estimated to have cost Rs 30,84,99,691.

The seized items and the detained individual were handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department, Aizawl, Mizoram for further investigation and legal proceedings.
